Due to the lack of funding, resources and infrastructure, the lack of basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills is a massive problem in Cape Town, predominantly in poor communities locally known as “townships”! These areas are often heavily overpopulated (locals and migrants) and the few schools that exist here, simply cannot cope with the high number of children. While this is a great help to these children and communities, it has adversely resulted in high teacher-student ratios. Most classes now operate at a ratio of 40-45 children for every one teacher, and in addition to this, the children coming in from different communities often have very different learning abilities, and many require special individual attention! This can be extremely challenging for teachers, and this is where our volunteers come in. *Volunteers are welcome to work at a childcare/kindergarten during the school holidays.

Volunteer Responsibilities
When you volunteer in our Teaching / Assistant Teacher project your tasks include but are not be limited to: Assist the local teacher with everyday in-class duties Lesson planning and execution, according to the school program Help students that are struggling to understand the lesson Substitute for the main teacher when required Occasional admin duties Educational games, songs, activities Assist with fundraising and annual functions/events

ACOMMODATION
We always provide comfortable accommodation suitable to the program module and location. Typically, that might mean a home stay or during your selected program. All rooms always include WiFi.
In-Country Orientation
From the time you arrive in the country, we will make sure your trip runs smoothly. We show you the best places to eat, banks, point of interests, and are there for all questions.
MEALS
Your experience includes a weekly meal plan of hearty and healthy local fare. The plan includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday through Friday.
Weekends are free for making your own culinary explorations
Monetary donation
A monetary donation goes directly to the project where you will be volunteering. This money is used to help the project purchase material they need on a daily basis, meals or pay other expenses they have.
ACTIVITIES
You always learn and enjoy more when you are relaxed. That’s why we build in a weekly selection of activities, excursions, events and outings into our tours, language courses, volunteer service. From Salsa, to hiking a active volcano!
